No Heat and No Air Conditioning
This week I was called to a home in Raleigh, NC whose furnace was not working and had no heat in their house.
As a technician, the first task was to turn on the thermostat and check the furnace cycle. Apparently everything went well with the furnace, except the furnace would not blow the warm air. The problem was with the blower part of the furnace. But the diagnosis was not as easy as it looked. The fan is concealed in a blower cabinet that must be removed to look at the fan.
In this very unusual situation, the fan wheel had totally disintegrated and the blades had wedged the fan inside the fan housing. There were signs for two other possible problems that may have tripped up any green technician, but a thorough slow diagnosis was the proper method for getting to the root of this heater problem. This is where experience and skill is necessary and requires a bit more of both than your average DIY homeowner has or internet forum would provide.
