How to Adjust Your Nest Thermostat

Nest Thermostat in Eco mode

If you see a leaf on your Nest, your thermostat has gone into Eco mode.  By default, Nest thermostats follow a schedule you create when you first set up your thermostat.  This can be a blessing but also highly frustrating when trying to warm your home on a cold day and the Nest thermostat keeps turning down the temperature to save energy, or on a hot day, you are trying to cool your home, but it never seems to get where you would like it to be.

 How Can You Prevent Your Nest Thermostat from Going Into Eco Mode?

Nest thermostats automatically switch to the eco (leaf) mode when no one is home. You’ll save energy by not cooling or heating your home when it’s not necessary. You can also manually set your thermostat to eco mode using the Nest app or Google Assistant.  You can turn off your thermostat if you do not want it to switch into eco mode automatically. To switch it off, you must do the following:

  • From the Nest app’s home screen, choose your Nest thermostat.
  • Click or toggle to the Nest settings icon on the screen.
  • Now select Home/Away Assist.
  • Now you can turn off the automatic switching to Eco Temperatures.
  • You can also select if your thermostat will use Eco Temperatures while you’re home or away.

Once you’ve turned off automatic switching, your thermostat will not change to eco mode without your consent. You’ll have to do it manually to go into eco mode while away or at home. Follow the procedure below to do it manually:

  • Open your Google Home app.
  • Search for your Nest thermostat and click on the button.
  • Scroll down to the settings menu.
  • Now choose Preset.
  • After that, select Eco

After following these steps, the eco mode will be activated, and your regular schedule will resume when the temperature is set to change again.

You can also use Google Assistant or the Home app to adjust the temperature quickly at home.
