– Commercial projects or anything needing site/planning review must be approved by the Planning Department before the permit is issued.
–Application forms are available from the town’s Permits/Inspections office.
– Checklists for different project types ensure your submittal is complete.
– Use the IDT Plans portal for plan reviews for most residential, commercial, solar, etc.
– Single-trade residential permits (electrical, plumbing, mechanical) can be submitted via the ePermits system.
– The permit office reviews plans for completeness and technical compliance.
– If Planning review is needed, that happens before issuing the permit.
– Once approved, pay the permit fees. The permit is then issued (often electronically) and work can begin.
– As construction progresses, schedule required inspections (foundation, rough-in, insulation, final, etc.).
– Inspection requests can be submitted by phone or online.
– Simple permits / single-trade permits may be granted quickly (minutes to a few days).
