Should I get a Larger AC System?

Putting a too-large AC in your home or business can negatively affect your cooling system’s performance and efficiency. Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Short cycling: If your AC unit is too large for your home, it will cool the air too quickly and shut off frequently. This process called “short cycling,” can cause excessive wear and tear on your system, leading to breakdowns and higher energy bills.

  2. Inefficient operation: When an AC unit is too large for your home, it will consume more energy than necessary to cool the air. This results in higher energy bills and wasted energy.

  3. Humidity issues: An oversized AC unit will cool the air too quickly and may not have enough time to remove moisture from the air. This can result in high humidity levels in your home, making it feel uncomfortable and increasing the risk of mold growth.

  4. Uneven cooling: An oversized AC unit may not be able to properly distribute cool air throughout your home. As a result, some areas may be excessively cooled while others may not receive enough cool air.

An AC unit that is too small will struggle to cool your home efficiently, while one that is too large will waste energy and result in higher energy bills. A properly sized unit will provide efficient cooling, comfortable humidity levels, and even cool air distribution throughout your home.

How do we know what size AC unit you need?

Before any installation, we do a load calculation on the home or business.

An HVAC load calculation determines the heating and cooling needs of a home or space. This calculation takes into account a number of factors such as the size of the space, the insulation, the number of occupants, the number and size of windows and doors, and the local climate. The calculation results in the size (in British Thermal Units, or BTUs) of the heating and cooling equipment needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the space.

A proper HVAC load calculation is essential to ensure the heating and cooling system is properly sized for the space. If the system is too small, it will not be able to cool or heat the space adequately, and if it is too large, it will waste energy and result in higher energy bills.

It’s important to have an HVAC professional perform a load calculation for your home or business to ensure that you have the right-sized heating and cooling equipment for your needs. An accurate load calculation can help to ensure efficient and effective operation of your HVAC system, lower energy costs, and provide optimal comfort for occupants of the space.

The technicians were very professional and communicated very well about what they were doing. They worked outside in 90+ degrees and through a rain storm. I would recommend them for any plumbing services in the future.

I was able to get an appointment to tune up my AC unit the week following the week that I called. The technician was on time - wore a mask, gloves, and shoe coverings and endeavored to stick only to the thermostats and unit in the attic and went around to the back (I live in a town home) without going through my home. I truly appreciated this approach. The unit was serviced and the cost was very reasonable. I “found” this company because my daughter uses their services too and has been very happy with them.
